Help Talle's Heart! Featured

July 30, 2010
Poor Talledega! After wandering the streets of Baltimore, Talledega was rescued by Homeward Trails from a Maryland shelter. While in foster care, we discovered that Talledega has a heart murmur and needs to be checked out by a cardiologists. Doggie cardiologists are expensive, but it is the only way for us to know what is wrong with this sweet boy. Please donate today so that we can get his heart checked out!

Help Bring Elliott to DC! Featured

July 24, 2010
Please help us bring Elliott to DC! Elliott is a beautiful 1 year old husky/lab mix currently in a rural high kill shelter in Ohio. He was picked up by animal control wandering around the downtown of his little town. The shelter has fallen in love with this sweet, loving boy and has asked us for help. Please donate today (or apply to foster) Elliot!
Fluffy, adorable, and one of the friendliest cats around, this poor little 3 year old grey and white manx kitty named Bunny has been spending most of her time in a cage ( as have 5 other kitties with FeLV) at a small rural  shelter in West Virginia for a very long time.  The shelter staff absolutely love this sweet girl and are trying their best to keep her alive for as long as they can in the hopes that she will be adopted.  Her chances are slim though - poor Bunny is being overlooked because she is positive for the feline…

Take A Chance on Chance! Featured

June 28, 2010
Take a chance on Chance! Meet Chance, a gorgeous black and tan coonhound just waiting for his forever home. Chance is a southern gentleman that loves walks after a summer storm, hikes through a leafy forest, or just catching a nap on his doggie bed in the sun. Chance is an easygoing guy that gets along with both dogs and cats.  Chance is housebroken, cratetrained and the easiest foster dog his foster dad ever had! He is a wonderful boy looking for a lap to rest his head on. Could that lap be yours?
Sharon and her three kittens make up an adorable feline family! Sharon, calm mommy, is relaxed about letting her kittens explore, and won't be flustered if you interact with them. Her kittens will all be long-haired, and each have a distinct personality. The leader of the pack has a black body and white paws. He is the most social and playful and especially enjoys playing with a ball. Another kitten has a dark gray body with white paws, and is playful too, but lower energy than his brother. The final kitten is dark gray and is shy, but likes to explore small spaces. He isn't afraid to climb up high, either.…
Junebug loves to play, as long as she doesn't have to go far for the fun! Her favorite toy is one she can bat around with her front paws while lying down. Junebug likes the occasional head rub too, but doesn't beg for attention and doesn't like to be "over-petted." She's a low-energy cat, and prefers lounging to running around. Junebug is big and fluffy; a beautiful declawed shorthaired calico cat, about 8 years old. She keeps to herself, and ignores most other cats. If you're interested in an easy-going, low maitenance cat, then Junebug is your girl!

Bring Jake to DC! Featured

June 7, 2010
Meet Jake! Jake is currently stuck in West Virginia, patiently waiting to come to the DC area where he can start his new life! Jake was rescued by a West Virginia organization just before the county dog warden's appointment to have him euthanized. There were 16 dogs and unfortunately they could only rescue 13 of them. Jake was lucky number 13! Help keep Jake's lucky streak alive and consider donating so we can bring him here to a foster home. http://specialneedsdog.chipin.com/sponsor-jake
Noggin is a young, rescued male, about a year or two old.  He is a cream/buff colored tabby and a real love-cat.  He seeks your affection, and lest you forget him, he will bump you with his noggin for more pets.  Noggin gets along well with other cats and stands his ground with dogs.  He has a calm and even temperament and plays well with all other pets and people. Noggin is an excellent companion cat.
Jacob is a big goof!  He totally thinks he weighs 10lbs as he crawls into his foster's lap and gets comfortable.  He has come a far weigh from the emaciated dog we pulled from West Va at death's door several months ago.  He has gained weight (obviously), has healed and has gotten used to living in a home (LOVES IT!).  He is super sweet and sloppy with his kisses.  All this said ... he will need some basic obedience training and an owner that is knowledgeable with pits would be best.  Check out his petfinder page and send in an…

Luigi has Superbounce! Featured

May 24, 2010
Luigi is the super-charged member of the Mario Family.  He is very active, friendly, playful, and affectionate-- all black and less than a year old.  He gets along great with all dogs and cats because he is only interested in chasing toys.  Luigi is all legs, neck, and ears and he loves to play, run and climb.  He is skinny, but has the muscles to power his dashes across the room with his all-white brother, Mario.  He loves people and purrs when you pick him up, but he doesn't stay in one place for long -- too much to do.…
