Dizzy the 4 Month-Old Cutie Pie
Dizzy is a 10 week old playful DSH Tabby who is looking for her forever home along with her siblings Ellington, Billie and Ella, and her mom, Tootsie. These kittens are social, playful, and just plain cute. They must go in pairs or with mom or to a home where there is already a similarly aged kitten. They will not be adopted out as singles. These kittens are super playful and need a kitten playmate! **** Dizzy has cerebellar hypoplasia- a neurological disorder she most likely got a birth. It will not get any worse and Dizzy seems to get around just fine.

Thanks for Coming To Pints for Paws!
Thanks to everyone who came out to Pints for Paws on Sunday at Union Pub to benefit Homeward Trails! We had a great time and raised some funds to help animals. It was so much fun that we're considering making it a monthly event.
You can check out photos of the event at http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=291026&l=6c9a4bb577&id=83225809208
Update on the Puppy Parvo Emergency - Help Still Needed
You all have been so wonderfully supportive in helping us give the Parvo pups the very best treatment! To date, we have been able to raise 75% of the expenses....so we still need to raise an additional $1,500 to help us get to 90%. We are so appreciative of all the support!!
To date, two of the Retriever pups are finally going home from the vet after a full week of treatment! We are thrilled as it was truly not looking good even 48 hours ago. Thanks to our friends at Palisades Vet for their wonderful care!
Sadly, three more pups remain hospitalized at Burke Animal Hospital, one in grave condition and two others in serious shape. We hold out hope that they will pull through! With your tremendous help, we have been able to keep treating them and did not have to stop treatment prematurely due to cost!
Blitzen, a young Yorkie mix with heartworm
Blitzen is a 1.5 year-old, 10-lb. neutered Yorkie mix boy. He was left at a rural WV shelter when his people moved. They said he is housebroken, good with dogs, cats and kids. Blitzen needs a foster or adoptive home. Can it be you? Help him start 2011 on a good note.
Blitzen also needs sponsors to help pay for his heartworm treatment. To sponsor Blitzen, go to our donation page and input his name in the Animal Name field under Sponsorship Donation. Then make your donation through Paypal.
Caroline & Maryland- the Kittenpalooza Moms
Maryland and Caroline are "sister moms" who came from Caroline County, MD. They had very large litters of kittens within a week of each other and each helped the other in the birthing process and the immediate care of the newborns. As the kittens settled in, the sister moms would nurse whichever kitten was mewing. They were a true super litter so their foster mom called them Kittenpalooza!
After raising their babies, Caroline and Maryland were spayed and they now spend their days playing with the foster's staff cats, chasing squirrels through the windows and looking for a warm neck to wrap around. The girls are perfectly socialized and get along well with other cats. They seem quite tolerant of cat-friendly dogs too. They are still young...perhaps just two years old and are sleek and healthy. Caroline is a brown mac tabby with white pantyhose and a white belly. Her intense eyes are golden and will implore you to love her. Maryland is also a brown tabby with green eyes but she has no white markings save for a white horizontal strip at the end of her tail. Very unique.

These girls are looking for their forever homes. They are playful and active, but they have all the appropriate "good cat" manners that one could hope for...perfectly clean, scratch post savvy, not counter surfers (although Caroline will check out the trash cans) and they are both always ready for a warm snuggle or an afternoon nap with their humans. While they are a great pair, Caroline and Maryland would be fine as singles and will bond quickly to any human willing to be owned by a cat! If you're interested in adopting one or both, please go to their Petfinder page!

HT Rescues Hurricane Kittens from West Indies
Homeward Trails personally rescued two young kittens, Tomas and Jerry, from the West Indies following Hurricane Tomas. Following the hurricane, food was scarce and these young kittens were desperately searching for food when they "found" a Homeward Trails volunteer, who was in the area for business. With all of the legal papers and health certificates, the Homeward Trails volunteer carried them all the way to DC through Puerto Rico.
