Freddie

Freddie, Your Bull Terrier - Basenji Buddy?

February 11, 2010

I (Freddie's foster mom) am thinking that he's got some Basenji in him. I was thinking it myself and then someone asked me if he was a Basenji on a walk the other day. Between his white markings and the curl of his tail, I definitely see it. What do you think?

He's continuing to do well with his house training. He marks in the house occasionally but that's to be expected with a young male dog who was just neutered a few weeks ago and is living in a household with two other dogs.

He's also continuing to be SUPER sweet. He loves to give kisses and to wrestle with me on the couch.

I'm working on his separation anxiety but I can say with experience from having a dog with separation anxiety that it's a process that takes a while. He'll need a family who's committed to working with him on it and can deal with hearing him bark some at first, since he barks any time that he's separated from his owner. He barks when I go into the bathroom without him, he barks when I leave the house without him and he barks when crated. You can read more about separation anxiety here.

If you're interested in meeting Freddie (and having him lavish you with licks and love), please come to the dog adoption event this Saturday.

Freddie, Your Own Spuds MacFriendly

February 04, 2010

Freddie seems to be a Bull Terrier mix (like Spuds Mackenzie) with his big head and super friendly temperament. He's the perfect size for the city - that's why we got him out of the country! Freddie found himself at the Ritchie County Shelter in West Virginia right after the main building burned down. With his short soft fur and compact size, he really belongs in the city! So we  brought him up to the DC area! Freddie is great with other dogs and super sweet with people. He has a very happy bounce in his step that makes him pretty much irresistible.

Freddie is definitely a young guy with lots of energy who likes playing fetch and playing with other dogs so he would love a home where he could go to a dog park and/or visit with doggy friends regularly. He seems to have some separation anxiety when left at home alone so he will need an owner who's willing to work with him on that.
