News & Announcements
A special thanks to Phantacee Salon & Spa of Arlington, Union Jacks of Bethesda, Bus Boys & Poets of Shirlington, and DC United for supporting HT and our animals.
These great businesses have recently hosted fundraising and adoption events, helping HT to find homes for more animals and bring in needed funds for others!
When looking for businesses to support, please consider supporting those that support the animals!
4th of July is a fun, outdoor for the whole family - except for some of our four-legged friends.
With temps in the high nineties, it will be extremely hot for pets on the 4th. Beware that sidewalks and especially roads (where many holiday street fairs take place) will be in excess of one hundred and fifty degrees. Your pets will quickly burn their paws and overheat. Do NOT take this chance. Leave your pet at home.
When the fireworks start, many animals become fearful. Do not leave home without ensuring your windows and doors are securely shut. Animals that become fearful may often try to escape through doors and windows. And if you bring your pet with you to watch the fireworks, he/she may slip a collar and bolt if the loud noises make him fearful.
Finally, NEVER leave your pet in a hot car. Cars can heat up to temps above one hundred degrees in a matter of minutes. Do not take this chance. Play it safe and leave your pets at home.
Be smart and be thoughtful. Do not put your pet in danger this holiday! Burnt paws and loud noises are no picnic for pets.
Happy and Safe 4th of July from Homeward Trails!
Last weekend's charity dog wash raised more than 6 Hundred $$ for Homeward Trails Animal Rescue!

Fayette County, WV is the very first shelter that Homeward Trails worked with, starting back in 2002. To date, we have rescued thousands of animals from this rural area, helping to decrease the euthanasia rate a great deal. This donation opportunity will allow us to take in even more, by providing funds for spay/neuter, vaccinations and boarding for animals that need Homeward Trails to give them a second chance at life.

We are thrilled to announce that a generous donor has made a matching donation offer to Homeward Trails to help us rescue more cats and dogs from our partner shelter in Fayette County, WV! This kind act is in honor of his rescued cat Berkley. YAY Berkley!
Fayette County Animal Control is the "original" shelter that launched Homeward Trails, when on a cold December day in 2001, founder Sue Bell wandered in to make a donation of dog biscuits. Two days later, she left with three dogs and WHOLA! Homeward Trails started! Over the years, the euthanasia rate at Fayette County has diminished thanks in part to 8 years of dedicated rescuing from this shelter by Homeward Trails and other shelters who got involved with HT's urging.
This generous offer will match any donation by 50%....so your 50 dollar donation today will automatically become 75 dollars....and more cats and dogs in the small, sad, rural shelter of Fayette County will leave alive.
Just click here to make a donation of any size...and help us give the animals of Fayette County a second chance at life!
