HT aims to provide permanent homes for every animal we take in. We work diligently to provide needed medical and behavioral care for our rescued animals. We are lucky to have a wonderful network of veterinarians, medical specialists, trainers, and behaviorists who help us give thousands of animals annually long, healthy lives.

There are times, however, when an animal we rescue is unable to be put into an adoptive home for severe medical or behavioral reasons. HT euthanizes animals as a last resort and only after all other safe, humane options have been considered and euthanasia has been determined by our staff and our professional partners to be the only safe and humane option.

We are proud to solidly fall under the “no kill” definition, meaning that we only euthanize animals that are terminally ill or considered a risk to public safety. We also successfully find homes for more than 90% of the animals we rescue.
