Help Us Give These Very Special Pets a 2nd Chance At Life
The animals featured here are some of the hundreds who have treatable but costly illnesses and injuries that Homeward Trails rescues every year. We have limited resources and must make life and death decisions weekly. Too often, these animals are left behind in shelters simply due to cost. We need extra help to take in animals whose care will cost more and for animals who may be with us longer as they recover.
Your sponsorship of an animal will save a life in real time. Every donation helps save a life.
Please, consider a tax-deductible donation today to help these animals. They deserve a 2nd chance at life. And together, we can give them that.
MARGOT
Needs masses removed!
Margot arrived very underweight with several mammary masses, one the size of a grapefruit. Who knows how long she’s been living with them, but she needs to have them removed and biopsied to see what’s going on. This sweet girl just wants to live a full and happy life, and you can help that happen.
LEVI
He broke his leg!
Levi was wrestling with his brother when things got a little out of hand. Suddenly, Levi started crying, growling and holding his back leg up. Once we got him to the vet, X-rays showed a fracture. We’re hopeful that his leg can be splinted and it will heal, but that means regular trips back to the vet to have the split changed and repeated x-rays to ensure everything is healing. Please help Levi get back on (all of) his feet again!
LOKI
What’s causing his reactivity?
Loki is a 3 year old special needs dog. He was born blind in one eye and deaf. Loki was raised in rural Virginia around farm animals where he ran free. When Loki arrived at Homeward Trails he was frightened of cars and he needed to learn how to walk on a leash. Loki has been confronted with a lot of changes that can be scary when you’re partially blind and deaf. To help with his anxiety, we’re hoping to get Loki into a veterinary behavioralist. This way we can give Loki all the tools he needs to take on the world and find the right adopter.
ASH
Tiny kitten rapidly declining!
We have a sad update to share, unfortunately Dusty didn’t make it. But Ash seems to have turned the corner and is on the mend. They had started struggling with diarrhea and refusing food. They were much smaller than their siblings and were losing weight. At only 5 weeks old, they can crash so quickly. Both received IV fluids and supportive care while the vet worked to determine what was going on. Unfortunately Dusty didn’t respond to treatment. Any support you can provide as we continue to monitor Ash and her other siblings is very much appreciated.
CHLOE
Hit by a car!
Chloe was picked up in rural Virginia by an animal control officer after being hit by a car. They rushed her to a vet who put her leg in a cast after determining it was broken. The rural shelter then reached out to us because a shelter is no place for a dog healing from such a major injury.
She’s now with us, but her leg just isn’t healing the way it needs to. She needs to have the leg reset and put back into a cast. Please help us save Chloe’s leg and get her back on the road to recovery!
SNOWBALL
Help him smile!
Snowball’s smile needs some major TLC. He came to Homeward Trails because his owner could no longer care for him. We know it must have been a difficult decision, but now we have he chance to meet all of Snowball’s emotional and medical needs. He has severe periodontal disease that needs to be addressed immediately. If left untreated, it can snowball (pun intended) into a host of other serious conditions. Please help us get Snowball the care he needs right away!
