Homeward Trails in the News

Check what the folks at Homeward Trails have been
up to in and around the community!

Homeward Trails is thrilled to announce this new program in partnership with the Pittsylvania Pet Center (PPC)!

The “Home To A Home” program will aim to decrease the number of animals having to enter a shelter by offering pet owners an opportunity to move the pet they can no longer keep directly to a foster home.

Our hope is to prevent an influx of animals entering the shelter as quarantine starts to lift and to re-route unwanted animals on a regular basis from one home to another!

Shelters, even those that are wonderfully run, clean and safe like the PPC can still be scary for so many animals and they pose unavoidable health risks to animals that are young and old.

The PPC animal shelter serves Pittsylvania County and surrounding communities in southern Virginia, where available foster and adoptive homes are fewer than here in Northern Virginia.

Join us in celebrating this program and our wonderful fosters who we know stand ready to assist the animals who will benefit!!

Collaboration saves lives!

A small team is currently in Guanica, Puerto Rico, assisting the many dogs and cats that have been impacted by the recent earthquakes.  “Our hearts are breaking for our rescue volunteers, staff and partners in Guanica. Many have lost their homes and on top of that stress, are worried about the dogs and cats in the streets that they care for,” says Sue Bell, Homeward Trails Executive Director.  We are prepping to get 37 dogs off the island tomorrow, January 15. Our generous donors have covered the cost of this flight and land transport (and ANOTHER one on the 24th)….now we just need a bit more for the medical needs to get them on the plane.  Please consider making a donation to our GuaniCARES program and follow our team on Facebook for real time updates. Thank you!

We are so honored to have been selected by the Washington Capitals as the beneficiaries of the Caps Canine Calendar for the second year in a row.  Our staff, volunteers and pups had a blast at the calendar photo shoot on October 17.  Here are some links to some of the media coverage of that day.  The calendar will be available for purchase in early December.
