Janet, a dog HT rescued from the Ritchie animal shelter

Janet, a dog HT rescued from the Ritchie animal shelter

In January, Homeward Trails animal shelter partner Ritchie County Humane Society suffered a devastating loss: a fire swept through the building that housed the dogs and cats awaiting rescue, killing the animals and causing tens of thousands of dollars of damage.

This Sunday, HT is holding an adoption event highlighting dogs who we’ve rescued and brought to the DC area from the Ritchie shelter at BARK! pet store in Olney, MD. In addition, 10% of the proceeds from both the Olney and Clarksville BARK! stores on Sunday, March 28th will be donated to Ritchie County Humane Society.

Please consider donating directly to the Ritchie County Human Society (http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/WV22.html), fostering or adopting a homeless pet, or making a purchase at BARK! on March 28th.

Locally-based Homeward Trails Animal Rescue will be hosting their annual PawCasso Charity Art Auction on Saturday, April 24, 2010. This great event is being held downtown at the historic Council on Foreign Relations, 1777 F Street NW – just blocks from the White House. This year’s live art eventt is featuring more than 60 amazing local artists as well as an upscale silent auction that includes items such as: private airplane ride, hotel stays, pet sitting, jewelry, beach houses and much, much more.

Homeward Trails rescues and adopts out an average of 1,700 homeless cats and dogs annually. This event benefits the Homeward Trails Medical Fund, which provides support to animals that come to Homeward Trails needing surgeries, specials medications, rehab or behavioral training. Animals needing such are often left behind in shelters, but Homeward Trails prides itself in taking in dozens of special needs animals annually and getting them the homes they deserve.

Support these wonderful efforts by purchasing tickets today. Limited tickets are available. Visit www.homewardtrails.org/pawcasso for more info or to purchase tickets online.

pawcasso10PawCasso 2010 was a smashing success, bringing in over $20,000 for the animals of Homeward Trails.

With almost 300 people in attendance, the evening featured the amazing art of more than 50 local artists, all of which was auctioned live!

We also thank the more than 75 local businesses and individuals who donated more than $10,000 worth of items for our silent auction.

We want to thank everyone who attended, volunteered and donated. We could not have done it without each and every one of you.

Stay tuned for details about PawCasso 2011.
