ABOUT THIS ANIMAL:
Nick's story began with uncertainty. He and his sister, Abby, were left behind when their owner never returned for them when they were dropped off for training. After being surrendered to one of our rural shelter partners, they eventually made their way to Homeward Trails, where Nick is getting his first real chance to discover what it means to be someone's beloved companion.
This sweet Beagle boy is a gentle, sensitive soul who is learning that the world isn't as scary as it once seemed. Everything in his foster home—from neighborhood walks to meeting new people—has been a new adventure. While he can be shy at first, Nick faces each day with quiet courage. With the encouragement of his foster dog siblings, he's learned to enjoy his walks and is becoming braver all the time. Recently, he's even started offering an unsolicited "touch" during training sessions, as if he's beginning to realize that humans can be trusted.
Nick has spent much of his life looking to other dogs for reassurance, and he would love a home with a confident canine friend who can continue to help him navigate the world. Beneath his cautious exterior is a loving dog who wants to connect—he just needs someone willing to move at his pace and celebrate the small victories that mean so much to him.
The family who adopts Nick won't just be giving a dog a home. They'll be giving him the security, patience, and love he's been missing for far too long. And in return, they'll get the privilege of watching a shy little Beagle discover that he is finally safe, finally wanted, and finally home.
