Jill is a sweet older gal who had a rough start to life. She spent 7 long years on a chain in a backyard in rural VA. She tried to chew herself free from those chains, leaving her with few teeth. Then she came to Homeward Trails in 2017, got her little teeth all cleaned up and was adopted. Her mama got sick this year and couldn’t care for her anymore so she came back to us.

Now she is in foster doing great. She loves to sleep with her doggy friends, walk around the yard using that beagle nose to track down every new smell there is. She isn’t in a hurry to do much of anything unless it involves a treat. Because of her age, she does need more frequent potty breaks, but her fosters have a pee pad down in case they don’t get home in time to let her out when she has to go. She is full of love and always happy to see her people with that little white tipped tail going a mile a minute. In true beagle fashion, she can bark when she has to go potty, wants a snack or just some attention so an apartment may not be the best option for her. This gal deserves to spend her golden years in a home of her own with her own soft bed for long naps.

Foster update: Mama Venus is a super mama. She is one smart lady! She has learned “sit” in just a few days and working on “shake” and “down.” She goes into her crate easily with a treat. She is awesome at house-training. She’s only had one accident! She will go to the door when she needs to go out. She is a bit under-weight and is very motivated by food – though not food aggressive at all! I’ve taken a full bowl of food away from her plenty of times to test it out. She’s a counter-surfer though, so keep all food out of reach! Her front top and bottom (and canines) are all worn-down, but she can eat dry food and treats just fine. She is a pleasant dog, loves pets and affection, though has yet to cuddle up with me when given the opportunity.
