My name is Sugar – I’m a Hurricane Harvey survivor.

Someone really knew what they were doing when they named me Sugar as I am a very sweet three year old mixed breed dog. I’m looking for my perfect forever family.

I’m a true southern girl. Not long ago I was in Texas but came to Virginia after Hurricane Harvey. Right now I live in an apartment in Alexandria where I meet lots of new people every day on the street, in the hallways and in the elevator. Lots of people stop my foster “dad” to say what a pretty girl I am.

Right now I am learning my basic commands and doing really well. I get to go on lots of long walks which is really fun. I meet lots of nice people and dogs and am told I really know my leash manners.

My apartment is really nice and I keep it that way since I am both house trained and crate trained. I am a big girl though with a lot of energy and really want a house with a yard to play in, especially one with adults and older teens.

Out of my home, I am full of energy but inside my favorite activity is snoozing on the couch and on my foster’s lap. I also like to toss my kong around and play with my rope toy. You can see me playing with it at this link: https://youtu.be/q2Uktaz8kAQ

If you take me home I promise to snooze on your lap until your legs go numb and be your companion on lots of walks.

We need fosters so that we can save dogs before they are euthanized at the shelters. Buster was rescued from the streets of Puerto Rico. He is calm and easy-going. Buster Is the perfect combination of loving couch potato and active companion. Buster has learned so much since coming to Homeward Trails. He now walks very well on a leash, knows how to to sit, lie down, and even shake! Buster loves to go for walks, hikes, and runs with his foster. He is also more than happy hanging out and being some snuggles.

Buster is friendly with other dogs when out and about, but like any other dog, caution should be used when introducing him to a new furry face in a home. Buster will be protective of his food from other dogs so he would need to be fed in his crate or go to a home without other dogs. Although he has not been cat tested, Buster doesn’t seem to be interested n the squirrels or birds when walking around outside. He is friendly with children and tolerant of tugging and touching as long as its not his food or treats – he is working on sharing though! A house with small children is not recommended. Guests will need to be introduced with care before they come into the home, but Buster takes to new friends very quickly.

Buster is working through some separation anxiety so he needs to be crated when left alone. He currently will go into his crate for a bully stick. Ideally, Buster would like a forever home where someone works from home at least part-time or is home enough so he could spend less time in his crate.

Buster is a super smart boy and would do best in a home with a cautious dog owner who will give him love but also structure in his life. He would love to be your companion and keep you company on a cold winter evening or hike beautiful trails in the spring, summer, and fall. Do you have room in your heart and life for Buster?

Cooper is joyful. Why? Despite finding himself a stray, Cooper thinks life is full of wonderful things – he thinks humans are sublime, other dogs are fantastic playmates and he is really, really pleased that the world is bouquet of aromas for his nose.

Cooper would like to bring his joy to your world. This good looking 8 month old hound would like to join your home as a permanent member. He’s got so much to love to share. Cooper really loves other dogs and will be happiest in a home with another dog pal. He finds cats scary so a cat free home is the right one for this lovely dog.

Like walks and hiking? Looking for someone to greet you jubilantly when you come home? If so, here’s your boy. Want to learn more about Cooper? Please email Lois (see her email above).
