Meet Finn on Saturday, April 22, 2017 from 12-2 p.m. at:
Petco
7395 Lee Highway
Falls Church, VA 22042

Amazing Finn came to us all the way from Thailand and was rescued from the meat trade. Finn is a smart, independent dog with no fear and a love of the outdoors. He would love to walk the trails with you and then relax in the yard to investigate and hang out. He is great on the leash, is crate trained and will lay on a dog bed or the couch if allowed. He is medium energy. He occasionally barks but it is rare. He is very polite waiting for his food and takes treats gently. He likes to cuddle and have a rub, but is not Velcro. He is picky about his canine friends but could be paired with the right companion. He has done well in doggy daycare and boarding. While he can be crated or left in the house for a good length of time he would be happiest with access to the outdoors in addition to daily walks.

Tina is such an amazing girl- originally rescued from the streets of Puerto Rico, she has sat in rescue for the last 6 months with zero chance of adoption in Puerto Rico (too many dogs- no one interested in adoption!) . We heard about how sweet TIna is and desperately wanted to give her a chance to find a home. She flew to the DC metro area on 4/10 and is currently at our adoption center.
Tina is truly remarkable- she loves people and is very very calm and submissive. She loves to play with other dogs- wrestling and chasing. She gets along very well with everyone she has met and is going to make one lucky family very very happy!

Meet Valentina on Saturday, April 22, 2017 from 12-2 p.m. at:
Petco
7395 Lee Highway
Falls Church, VA 22042

Here at the Homeward Trails Adoption Center we have found ourselves with an abundance of hounds. To any dog lover, this is of course a good thing, but as a rescue organization our goal isn’t to accumulate & hoard dogs (no matter how much we desperately want to), but to act as a middleman until we find them a forever home. As such, much as we love these hounds, we need to find them homes ASAP.

Valentina is the hound we’re hoping to find a forever home for today, and she is a beauty! Just a year old, but a year without training and discipline, makes Valentina a little bit of a project for her adoptive forever home. Valentina is very sweet, but she can also be very loud — that is where the training will be required. Because of her talkative nature, we have to limit Valentina’s future forever home to those who are not in an apartment building. There is too great of a risk of Valentina being returned to us because of her vocalizing, which will take some time (via dedicated training) to stop.

But if you have a home where Valentina’s voice won’t be an issue — wow, what a wonderful dog you could adopt. We know looks are not everything, but holy cow she is adorable! This is the kind of dog that strangers stop you on the street to ask about, to love on her, and (until you train it out of her) to listen to her amazing howl. Her howl is a thing of beauty all its own, a song that she should be allowed to sing, but only on occasion and with your permission. Training a dog to only be vocal on command is surprisingly easy, but it does take dedication.

Valentina isn’t all voice — she loves to play with other dogs and is good with cats as well. She is great on walks, loves to sniff and explore, and when tired of that is an amazing snuggle-hound.

If you have a home that can accommodate a beautiful (if talkative) hound, and you are ready to make the commitment to providing a forever home, we hope you will consider Valentina. Stop by the Homeward Trails Adoption Center today! Valentina will be an amazing dog for one lucky family.

Jaclin is a very sweet puppy who has an abundance of playful energy. She loves to play with toys, but also likes taking naps when she wears herself out. She has been great about going to the potty outside. We no longer have her in a crate since she is fine sleeping through the night without going to the bathroom. We feel comfortable leaving her alone at home, as she doesn’t chew up furniture or do anything naughty. She is sensitive to loud noises and gets scared by unfamiliar things, so she will need some training for going on walks outside, especially in an urban area.

This cute pooch is from the streets of Kuwait ???? just looking for his forever home. He is cute and loves to play and will probably love a active family.

Alan came from a high kill shelter in Wise County. He was found as a stray and is still struggling to come to terms with being in a shelter. Alan likes his personal space. He needs a home that will give him time to learn to trust, to learn people are ok and homes can be fun. He likes to run around outside and is starting to come around in his foster home. He is ok with dogs and we are unsure how he would be with cats. Alan is looking for an adult-only with people who will give him time and space to become the great little guy he can be.

Meet Boots, Jr. on Saturday, April 22, 2017 from 12-2 p.m. at:
Petco

Falls Church, VA 22042

Boots is a handsome and wonderfully gentle and sweet 4 year old male foxhound. He weighs about 50lbs. Boots is a very affectionate boy who rolls over for belly rubs.

He’s a laid-back boy who is loves his walks and then is happy to chill in the house. Boots is fantastic with other dogs and pretty much ignores cats. He walks well on the leash. Boots loves the great outdoors and would love a home with a fenced yard to hang out in with his human but would also be fine without a yard.

Boots loves company but is ok when left alone with a canine companion for a typical work day. Boots is a friend to everyone, young and old outside the house and to visitors to the home but will be happiest in an adult only home.

He’s a great companion and well behaved dog. He is just scrumptious. Dogs don’t get much sweeter than this boy.

Meet Fred on Saturday, April 22, 2017 from 12-2 p.m. at:
Petco
7395 Lee Highway
Falls Church, VA 22042

Fred is a really sweet and laid-back male Beagle mix. He’s about 7 years young and weighs 30 lbs. Poor Fred was found as a stray and brought to a rural shelter. He probably spent his years as a hunting dog who unfortunately didn’t get the love and care he deserves. Fred is clearly an optimist tho – he’s loving and ready for a loving home with a nice soft bed.

Fred gets along with other dogs and cats. He’s mostly quiet but isn’t opposed to joining in the choir if another dog is barking. He loves other dogs and also gets excited when he sees other dogs and likes to call to them with a couple of howls. He loves attention and gentle pets. Fred is in a foster home with another dog and cats; he is a happy guy who gets along with everyone.

Fred came to a rural shelter with heartworms. Luckily, a kind and generous dog lover fell for Fred and sponsored his treatment. He’s been treated and is now recovering and is almost thru his recovery. He’s ready for his new home! .
