At 9 weeks old, these babies are looking for a home with someone who is home a lot and can work on basic puppy manners and proper socialization.
They’re all in foster home and are looking for a forever home.

Max is a totally awesome boy who was found as a stray in horrible condition- someone had obviously neglected Max as he was completely matted and had maggots living in his skin!! Poor guy! Thankfully he is all cleaned up now and going great. He has some cataracts but can see- it makes it hard to guess his age but the vets seem to think anywhere between 5-8 years old. Either way, Max has a lot of spunk and love to give. He enjoys going for walks and getting his back scratched, and is just the sweetest guy! . He likes other dogs and doesn’t mind a cat. He would be happiest in an adult only home.

The Declaration of Independence states that “all men are created equal.” We think that is true of dogs as well. But ask any hound owner and they’ll tell you, some dogs are more equal than others. If you want to understand why hound owners feel that way there is one great way to do that — adopt Nelly!

If you’ve already been bitten by the hound bug, then Nelly’s photo might be enough to convince you to adopt her — you might be halfway through the paperwork already. But if you are new to hounds and Nelly’s southern charm & grace are not enough for you, here are some other things to consider.

While some might say she is past her prime, Nelly would tell you age is just a number. While she might be over 8, with that age comes experience and calm. Puppy energy is amazing, it really is, but sweet, calm, and easy are also amazing. And, while I hate to say it like this, convenient. Puppy energy on a Saturday is great, puppy energy on Monday morning at 4 am is not. There will be no 4 am walks with Nelly. This is a lady of a certain age who knows the ins and outs of family living. You will never — ever — find an easier to adapt to your lifestyle dog than Nelly.

Nelly is a heart-worm survivor, but was treated successfully and is complete healed now. There are no negative side effects of having had heart-worms, and she can be kept on the normal preventative medication (by her loving forever family) to make sure she never has them again.

Nelly is great with kids (she has experience with special needs children as well — no issues), likes dogs, tolerates cats, and has been exposed to all manner of barnyard animals. Nelly doesn’t bat an eye, just keeps on keeping on, taking things at her own pace.

If you are looking for the easiest to adopt hound dog you will ever find, look no further than Nelly. And don’t let her age fool you, this is one young at heart beauty.

Please apply today if you are interested in Nelly!

The Declaration of Independence states that “all men are created equal.” We think that is true of dogs as well. But ask any hound owner and they’ll tell you, some dogs are more equal than others. If you want to understand why hound owners feel that way there is one great way to do that — adopt Trevor!

If you’ve already been bitten by the hound bug, then Trevor’s photo might be enough to convince you to adopt him — you might be halfway through the paperwork already. But if you are new to hounds and Trevor’s southern aristocratic good looks are not enough for you, here are some other things that might convince you.

Trevor is laid back, artfully lazy, and knows how to utilize his big brown eyes to get you to do whatever he wants. Luckily for you, Trevor wants your love, your protection, and probably a few more treats. “Trevor,” you’ll say, “I think one treat is enough.” Trevor will drop his head on your lap, lift his eyes up to your face, and let out a big sigh. To which you will reply, “you’re right Trevor, one treat is definitely not sufficient. What was I thinking?”

Adopting Trevor is probably the smartest thing you will ever do in your life. And when you adopt Trevor, it will obviously happen because of your own free will and not because he is using his mind control eyes to make you fall in love with him and give him additional treats. Trevor is also definitely not in the room with me staring at me as I type this. Hold on a second while I get some more treats.

Mind control eyes or no, I can tell you honestly that Trevor is the type of dog you will compare all future dogs to. If you adopt Trevor (and you should, he’s amazing), you are going to discover exactly what those bumper-stickers mean that say “who rescued who?”

If you think you’re ready to have a hound dog in your life, stop by the Homeward Trails Adoption Center today to meet Trevor. And bring a few treats.
