I'm Lulu, a three year old Bluetick Hound looking for my forever family.

I'm a very good looking 3 year old, 60 lb bluetick coonhound. Like so many blueticks, I've got a winning, gentle personality. I am a very playful girl, I love my toys and will always bring you a tennis ball to throw. In my foster home I am learning all my commands and am getting really good at walking on a leash. Walks are one of my favorite activities, so it's a good thing I'm so smart and picked up this leash walking skill so quickly.

I'm living with a very nice human in an apartment in Alexandria. Yes, I have a really beautiful hound howl but I don't see the need to be vocal too often. I'm a pretty quiet girl. My foster's home is very nice and I am house trained so I keep it that way.

I am very active and my ideal home would have a well-fenced yard or someone who can take me on a lot of long walks. I get along with pretty much everyone - other dogs and humans of all ages. I haven't met any cats yet but I'd probably like them too.

Before I came to Homeward Trails I lived in the Danville shelter for more than two years after someone gave me up when I was just a puppy. I am so happy to be finally living in a home again and eager to find my forever home..

If you are interested in meeting me, email my friend Lois at LoisLHT@gmail.com.

Tank is an outgoing and friendly dog who LOVES to play. He's friendly to other dogs and fine with cats. Tank is a gentle boy who has a ready tail wag for all his friends. He is a little timid about urban noises but this amiable country boy just needs a little time to get used to city living. Tank is much better at braving urban noises when he has a confident dog pal to show him the ropes.

Tank is estimated to be about 2 years old but he may be younger. He still has a puppy like quality to him - he's a silly, playful boy.

Tank is looking for his special home and is looking to meet you soon.

Tank came to us from King George Animal Rescue League.

    as you see fit:

Piper and Molly are a bonded pair that were surrendered to a rural open admissions animal shelter after their owner died. The two were in pretty rough shape, with badly overgrown nails, mobility constraints, and skin infections. HTAR pulled them from the shelter hoping to find a loving home here in the DC metro that was willing to take both, as a package, but we haven't yet found that home looking for both a Big and Little. We hate to break them up -- both girls are really easy members of the household and just want love and soft dog beds.

Piper is a 75-lb terrier mix who LOOOOOOVES people of all sizes. Don't let her deep baritone fool you -- she's a total lovebug. She maneuvers her head to be petted and will grumble and vocalize when you stop. She also loves to go on walks -- stairs are tough (she'd prefer single-level living) but leisurely neighborhood and beach walks are her thing. She's done very well meeting dogs at our adoption events, so could probably be integrated into a home with other mellow dogs (shhhh ... don't tell Molly). She likes to lounge on low-slung couches, if permitted, and sleeps on a dog bed on the floor next to the foster at night. On workdays the two are confined to a large airy laundry room with lots of bedding -- but given her impeccable house manners, she's probably do just fine with the run of the house. She's a low maintenance sweetheart who would fit into many types of households.

The girls are really easy members of the household and just want love and soft dog beds.

    UPDATED DESCRIPTION:
Missy is incredibly sweet and a total love bug! She's made giant strides with her foster family and has gone from hiding in her crate all day to now pure excitement to see them. Her tail never stops wagging to show love and appreciation toward her foster humans.

She is still learning that the outside world is not such a bad place. She's a shy dog and needs a confident doggie sibling to teach her the ropes. She needs an experienced dog owner who can challenge her and respect her insecurities, and provide patience to keep her coming out of her shell (sorry, no first time dog owners). The reward of her love is truly worth it.

Missy is much more willing to trust in her own environment, like indoors or in her own yard, than out in strange places. While she goes on walks and on-leash hikes, and to the dog park to get the exercise she needs, these are still outside her comfort zone. She would thrive in a yard to play and run in more securely.

She has been super sweet with her foster family's easy going dogs, and has even started helping them protect the house. She does not currently live with kids or cats, and would probably be fine with slow introductions and with kids who are well versed in dog. It will take some time to trust her new family, but once she does she is very loyal.

Missy loves her dog bed, toys and antlers; she's extremely food motivated and is very smart. She is a very good snuggler and loves to nap. She travels well in the car. She would make an excellent second or third dog in a house with a yard.

Blanco was rescued from the streets of Puerto Rico- he was found being starved and abused on the streets, and a kind animal lover could not turn a blind eye to him. They immediately scooped him up and rushed him to the vet- where it was thought that he would have to be euthanized- his body was covered in sores, you could see every bone along his spine, and he had heartworm. It was decided to try to treat him for a few days to see if he would get any better- which he did!! After many months of intensive TLC, Blanco's wounds have healed and he finally is back to a normal weight. Someone tried to make him look scary and cut his ears off- but he is just a big mush with a kind and gentle soul. He does well with other dogs, is calm, sweet, and so forgiving despite his horrible past. He is used to being crated and is quiet inside.
The last step for Blanco is to find a loving home- please look past his cropped ears and 'scary' image, because inside is a wonderful wonderful boy just ready to give you love!
