Sponsor These Shelter Animals In Time to Bring Them to Safety

The animals featured here are some of the hundreds Homeward Trails is asked to rescue each week. We have limited time to get them  safely to rescue. Space and money are the greatest barriers to us saying yes to each request. It costs approximately $150 to rescue each dog and $100 to rescue each cat. This includes basic vet care, fuel for transport, and housing once they arrive at HT.

Please note that we make every effort to rescue all animals that are fully sponsored. Rare exceptions occur if the shelter secures a home locally with short notice or an unexpected serious medical or behavioral issue arises preventing the transport of the animal. In these cases, your sponsorship funds will be applied immediately to another animal in need if the animal you sponsored is no longer available for transfer to Homeward Trails.

Your sponsorship of an animal will save a life in real time. Every donation helps save a life.

Please, consider a tax-deductible donation today to help these animals. They deserve a 2nd chance at life. And together, we can give them that.

These 4 little loves are hoping someone will be their valentine! These 15 week old cuties were found as strays in Puerto Rico at a tiny 2 weeks old. We have no idea what became of their mother and can only think the worst unfortunately. The puppies were in very bad condition; full of worms and other parasites. These poor pups could have been a statistic like so many other stray dogs in Puerto Rico. Lucky, with a lot of TLC by our rescue partners, the puppies were able to get healthy and are finally ready to fly to the DC area. The flight volunteers are ready to chaperone them, but first they need to have their rescue fully sponsored before they can make the trip. Homeward Trails does not want to have to pick which puppies stay behind and which can come. Sponsor these little ones and their hearts will just burst with joy!

These sweet 11 week old puppies have had a really tough life thus far. Milly and Chino were found covered in mange and likely infested with worms in Puerto Rico. They only survived because they happened to make their way to a good Samaritan who was feeding them to keep them alive. The puppies were very lucky to have someone looking out for them, and the person feeding them thinks their mama dog knew exactly what she was doing when she led them to their home! Even though the mama dog hasn’t been able to be rescued yet, the puppies were caught and are on their journey to getting healthy. Milly and Chino are finally healthy enough to fly to the DC area, where they can hopefully be adopted and start a new beautiful life! The only thing standing in their way now is getting enough donations to cover their flight and much needed veterinary care. The puppies are almost at the finish line! Please sponsor their future today!

Meet Mufasa. This handsome devil is one year old, weighing in at 30 lbs. He comes from a rural VA shelter. He was surrendered by his owner when they could no longer care for him, along with another dog. He was full of worms and his fur was patchy due to allergies from fleas. The good news is that he has since put on some weight and his fur has started to grow back! poor mufasa has had a rough go so far, but we know once we get him to homeward trails we can begin the process to find him a forever home, and this time it’ll stick. Mufasa deserves a life free of fear and discomfort, and that’s exactly what we aim to provide him.

Beatrice is only 1 year old, but was living a tough life. She was found out on the streets, a dangerous place for a dog to find food, avoid predators and survive the bitter cold. We’re glad she’s now in a shelter in rural Virginia, but we know her odds of getting adopted are low. The shelter doesn’t get much foot traffic and more dogs are dropped off than adopted. Can you help us get her here, where she’ll be able to find her forever family?

Barnaby was rescued from a crowded home in rural Virginia. This 9-week-old puppy was living with more than 24 other dogs! That’s not a good environment for him to thrive, and so he’s been removed. We want to find him a loving home where he feels safe and can relax. Can you help us raise the funds to get him here so we can find him a forever family?

We don’t know how Pluto, at only four months old, ended up living on the streets of southern Virginia. But this guy is lucky to be safe in the shelter, given how dangerous it can be for dogs to survive outside, especially in winter. Still, the shelter is no place to grow up, and Pluto deserves a loving home. We’re ready to find him one — all we need is the funding to transport and vet him!

Lucy must feel so lost. This five-year-old’s owner died and with no one left to care for her, she ended up in a shelter in southern Virginia. We’re sure she’s missing her human and her quiet home. But Lucy is friendly and loving and will thrive again once she finds a new family. We are ready to help place her in a home — we just need to get her here. Can you chip in to help this sweet dog?

This mama is named Clarice. She was a stray that had her puppies at a random Good Samaritans house, looking for shelter. They decided to let her stay and raise her puppies for as long as they could, but with six puppies it was too much to handle. We were contacted to help, and get clarice and her puppies to homeward trails where we can get them all warm, love-filled homes. This amazing mom deserves the best, and her puppies should get to see all the joy they bring to whomever is lucky enough to adopt them.

The six adorable faces you see here are only eight weeks old. They were surrendered by their owner in southern Virginia because they couldn’t care for them. These little guys are just balls of joy, and while they have no idea what’s going on, they’re still so full of life and love and ready to give it to the right people. We want to make sure none of them end up in this situation again, so we can find their absolute best match and forever home. They’ve got a little ways to go with vet bills and getting completely healthy, but we know with help we can make sure these little bundles of joy know true happiness.

Rosey Posey is a 2-year-old, cute-as-a-button mix that was found living behind an abandoned building. This precious girl is white and tan with the cutest pink nose. A Good Samaritan saw her living situation and called to have her rescued. Unfortunately, this girl is pregnant with her first litter – and she is heartworm positive. Although her rescuer made a very generous donation towards her heartworm treatment, it didn’t cover the entire treatment – and heartworms could kill her if not fully and effectively treated. Can you help bring Rosey Posey to Homeward Trails and help cover the rest of her heartworm treatment and vetting so that she can recover, safely give birth, and find the forever home she deserves?

Mocha is a beautiful brown and white lab mix who has absolutely mastered the art of puppy eyes. This sweet girl is only 2 years old and was found stray in West Virginia. Can you help bring Mocha to Homeward Trails for the TLC and forever family she needs?

Precious Venus looks like she could use a lot of TLC. This sweetheart was found as a stray in rural VA. We aren’t sure how long she was homeless, but she is tired and weary from life alone outside. The cold weather is hard and the days and nights were long for poor Venus. With the weather getting more severe every day, Venus was found without much time to spare. She now spends her time waiting for someone to come and rescue her but no one has stepped up to give this sweet girl a chance. We can’t bear to leave this sweet face behind. Please donate to her transportation and veterinary care so that Homeward Trails can start Venus on her orbit to a new life!

These adorable 8 week old puppies have been ignored and neglected since birth. All seven of them were born in southern VA to an owner that had over a dozen dogs on their property. These seven sweethearts were likely never wanted from the start and were forced to be raised outside in the elements. Their mama dog did the best she could, but with winter getting harsher by the day, it isn’t fair that these babies have to grow up not knowing the love or comfort of a real home. Homeward Trails is confident that if only we could get them to a DC area foster, the puppies will flourish! However, 7 pups are quite a commitment, and we need to ensure their rescue is sponsored. It is highly unlikely they have ever had veterinary care and chances are they are infected with worms and other skin mites. Please don’t make us choose with puppies get to come and which have to get left behind. Sponsor these little ones today!

Diesel and Snoopy are two smiley, seemingly happy-go-lucky boys who until just days ago were living outside in the frigid winter temperatures. Diesel is a smaller, pointy-eared Chihuahua mix, and Snoopy is a chonkier-looking, flop-eared pug mix. At 8 years old and many long years living outside, poor Diesel is also in desperate need of a dental.

Luckily, these sweet boys were surrendered on Saturday less than 24 hours before snow and ice was covering their former outdoor living space. Despite their situation, these guys both appear to be friendly with people of all ages and immediately snuggled up to rescuers when they were put in the car.

However, the rescue who stepped up for these guys is completely FULL. They were able to get Snoopy and Diesel into temporary boarding to keep them out of the snow but they need a place to go NOW. Can you help sponsor bringing Diesel and Snoopy to Homeward Trails so they can get the care they need and have their best chance at finding the forever homes they deserve?

Sky is a gorgeous tan and white mix with brown eyes and white feet. This seemingly sweet gal is only 2 years old and was unfortunately surrendered by her owner to a southern Virginia shelter – along with her 3, cute as a button, seven-week old pups. Most rural Virginia shelters have low resources, low foot traffic, and are especially dangerous for newborn pups who cannot be given vaccinations or medications. This suddenly homeless, tiny family is in peril if they remain at this shelter. Can you help sponsor bringing Sky and her babies to safety at Homeward Trails so they can receive the care they need to find their forever homes?

Nine tiny 8-week-old lab mix puppies were likely never wanted from the start. These sweethearts were surrendered to a southern VA shelter. Chances are that they were the result of an unwanted and unexpected litter after an owner didn’t spay their dog. Although the owner did the right thing by surrendering the puppies rather than them meeting a much worse fate, a shelter is no place for such young babies. They have gone from the comfort of their mama dog to a cold hard cage. The pups huddle with each other for warmth and reassurance, but the shelter is a scary place! Homeward Trails knows that time is of the essence and getting these puppies out is a top priority! The only problem is that there are nine little ones and we have to secure transportation for all of them as well as much needed vet care. Please sponsor to this big rescue. It would be awful to have to leave anyone behind! Donate to their future today!

While on a call to trap a handful of stray cats, a Homeward Trails partner heard barking nearby. The temperature was 20 degrees, and they found this poor family of cuties outside. They had no shelter and were surrounded by trash, used for breeding and kept outside their entire lives. Because of the extreme temperatures, this family was in extreme danger. Luckily they were able to be rescued, and now we just have to get them to homeward trails, so they can begin to heal and start new lives in happy warm homes. These poor dogs deserved so much better than the conditions they were kept in, and luckily we got to them in time to save their lives. Now we just need help to find them forever homes, where they never have to endure anything like that again.

Bertie, Bay and Brinly are precious 15 week old chiweenie mixes. They have lived a really awful life thus for unfortunately. The puppies were found on a beach in Puerto Rico in really awful condition. They were covered in an awful skin infection and extremely malnourished. There is a very good chance that if a PR rescue hadn’t found them, they all would have ended up starving to death. What a horrible fate awaited these cuties! Luckily, our very dedicated PR rescue partner was able to provide all the TLC and help they needed to recover from their very unsure fate. The puppies are finally well enough to fly to the DC area to start their new life over, but without donations, they won’t be able to make their flight out. HT needs to not only raise the funds for transportation, but for ongoing vet care until they are 100% healthy! Their 2 sisters already made it safely to HT and now it is time to get the rest of the litter on their flight!

We have to get these nine, 10-week old puppies to a safe situation! These little ones were living in rural Virginia. Their mom is a lab and their dad is a husky who lived nearby. Needless to say, it’s getting cold and that’s not a safe place for these little pups to grow up. Five precious 9 week old Great Pyrenees puppies were born on a farm in rural West Virginia. Their parents are livestock guardians, doing the important job of keeping farm animals safe. However, there is no room for this unexpected litter and the farmer knows they have to go. The puppies are very lucky, as many owners don’t do the right thing by asking for help, rather they turn to other ways of “disposing” of unwanted animals. These young puppies are just starting their life. Homeward Trails would be happy to be a lifeline for both the farmer at the puppies, but taking on these five little ones is a big undertaking. It is unlikely they have ever received vet care or even been off the farm. Raising enough funds to cover their rescue is a challenge HT has accepted. It would break our hearts to have to leave any of the puppies behind for monetary reasons. Please donate to this fluffy family today so they will learn a life of pampering instead of a life in a cold barn!
