Sponsor These Shelter Animals & Bring Them to Safety

The animals featured here are some of the hundreds Homeward Trails is asked to rescue each week. Space and money are the greatest barriers to us saying yes to each request. As a supporter of HT, you can help a great deal by making a donation to offset the costs to rescue one of these animals. On average, it costs approximately $150 to rescue each dog and $100 to rescue each cat. This includes basic vet care provided by the shelters, fuel for transport, staff time, additional vaccines and housing once they arrive at HT.

We are now offering our wonderful family of HT supporters the opportunity to donate to a specific animal and help us bring him/her to safety before time runs out. Every donation will save the life of a specific animal…and any donations over the amount needed will be applied to others in need.

Please, consider a tax-deductible donation today to help these animals. They deserve a 2nd chance at life. And together, we can give them that.

Cutie pie Timber is a 6 month old lab mix who is living a pitiful life at a southern VA shelter. His days are spent starting at the bars of a cage, watching people and other dogs pass him by all day long and no one stopping to give poor Timber any attention or love. Timber was once living in a home where he thought he would be loved forever, but sadly his owner couldn’t take care of him anymore and discarded him at the shelter door. Timber is confused and scared, but we know that with a little TLC, he will blossom and learn that there is a family out there that would love to have him forever! His biggest obstacle now is getting out of the shelter and up to Homeward Trails. If his rescue funds are raised, Timber can get transported out of the shelter as soon as possible so he can start his new life! Can you help Homeward Trails by sponsoring this sweetheart? He is sure to grow into a happy, healthy and confident dog as long as we can “throw him a bone!”.

This beautiful girl is Autumn! She might look like she’s a happy and loved puppy, but sadly Autumn was surrendered by her owner to a rural VA shelter. At only 6 months old, Autumn is already learning how sad life can be in a shelter. She sits in her cage every day just waiting for a kind person to come back and save her. Unfortunately, she has been passed over time and time again. The shelter often has to euthanize animals to make room for others coming in, and Homeward Trails does not want this sweetheart to end up on that short list. As soon as enough funds are raised to rescue her, Autumn can be on the next ride up to Homeward Trails! Can you help Autumn get out of the shelter and into a loving and loyal new family’s home? Your donations can keep that smile going for the rest of her life!

Maggie is a black, brown, and white 47-pound Tree Walker Hound mix who was found wandering alone in southern Virginia. This seemingly sweet but shy and scared girl is anywhere from 3-5 years old and has already seemed to face more hardships than any dog should. A loud, crowded shelter is no place for a large dog like Maggie – especially when most have low resources, low foot traffic, and higher euthanasia rates. Can you sponsor Maggie’s journey to Homeward Trails and her consequent care so she can find her forever home?

Flopsy is a cream golden retriever / pyrenees mix from West Virginia. This smiley, fluffy girl is only 3 years old. Unfortunately, West Virginia shelters often have low resources, low foot traffic, and high euthanasia rates – especially when it comes to bigger dogs like Flopsy. Can you help bring Flopsy to Homeward Trails so we can find her the family that’s just right for her?

Biscuit is a gray, tan and white lab/shepherd mix from southern Virginia. He was apparently taken in as a stray and never reclaimed. This seemingly sweet boy is at a shelter where most shelters have low resources, low foot traffic, and higher euthanasia rates. Can you help bring Biscuit safely to Homeward Trails so he can receive the TLC he needs and find his loving forever family?

Roxy is an absolutely precious brown and white, pink-nosed beagle mix from southern Virginia. This 8-month-old gal was surrendered by her owner because her apartment complex changed management and no longer allowed dogs. Poor Roxy is now scared and confused at a loud, crowded, higher-risk shelter, away from everything she’s ever known. Can you help bring Roxy to Homeward Trails so she can receive the TLC she needs and find a family that can keep her forever?

Simon is a cute, petite, brown and white Heeler mix that was found wandering the streets of rural Virginia and was taken in as a stray. This pointy-eared, bright-eyed boy is only 2 years old and deserves a second chance – one he is much more likely not to get at a rural shelter that has lower foot traffic, lower resources, and higher euthanasia rates. Can you help bring Simon to Homeward Trails so that he can have a fresh start?

Cheech is a handsome black, white, and brown Shepherd mix that was surrendered to a shelter in rural Virginia due to no fault of his own. He was surrendered by his owner because his owner could no longer care for him – and at only 2 years old, his owner is most likely the only person and safe place he’s ever known. Rural shelters often have low resources, low foot traffic, and higher euthanasia rates – often putting dogs like Cheech at high risk. Can you help bring Cheech to Homeward Trails so that he can safely find the loving forever home he deserves?

Axel is so precious! This sweet 4 month old boxer mix was found as a stray in rural VA. We have absolutely no idea how this tiny pup survived all alone. He had to be smart enough to find food and stay out of danger’s way around every corner. Axel was found wandering and brought into a rural shelter, where he now waits patiently in his cage for someone to rescue him. Sadly, Axel has been looked over by potential adopters and his days are turning into weeks behind bars. Can Homeward Trails save him before he becomes another statistic – another one of the millions of homeless dogs each year! We know that Axel is worth saving and with your help, this pup doesn’t have to know an ounce of loneliness ever again. Please help us save Axel. Leaving him behind on the transportation ride back would just break everyone’s heart. His future relies on you!

Ace is a handsome collie mix that was found wandering as a stray in rural VA. Like so many stray dogs, we have no idea if Ace was ever loved or cared for. It is clear he spent a long time living alone outside. Dodging cars, scrounging for food and always on the search for a safe place to sleep, Ace is surely tired and sad from being homeless. We know that stray dogs face a lot of hardships, which is why Homeward Trails wants to make Ace’s life a whole lot better. He has been living in a shelter while waiting for a rescue to come and save him and now is his chance at starting a new life! The only thing standing in his way is that enough funds must be raised to get him veterinary care and transportation to the DC area. Can you make sure that Ace gets his lucky ride to safety before he has to spend one more night behind bars?

Little Rowdy is lucky to be alive. This young 6 month old lab mix came into a rural VA shelter with a pretty bad injury to his leg. After x-rays and an exam, it seems like Rowdy may have been bit by a spider or even a snake! Rowdy is a fighter though and didn’t let his injury get him down. He went on crate rest and was able to make a full recovery. Now that Rowdy is feeling his best physically, he is ready to go start his new life with the help of a rescue! Homeward Trails heard about Rowdy’s journey to recovery and knows this sweet boy deserves a second chance at life. With enough donations, he can make the next transportation out of the shelter and up to Homeward Trails! Can you help put Rowdy’s unfortunate past behind him and sponsor his rescue ride today?

Poor Zane! This bright eyed 6 month old Shepherd mix was seized by animal control from a terrible situation. Although we don’t have every detail, we do know that in order for an animal to be seized, the home must have been extremely unfit to keep a dog. Zane was taken along with several other dogs and brought to a rural VA shelter. He is safe now but a bit sad, as all the other dogs in the home have been adopted except for Zane! We don’t know why this adorable guy keeps getting left behind. He is certainly all ears if anyone has suggestions on how he can be adopted. Homeward Trails thinks that Zane would be the perfect addition to the DC metro area and would love to bring him up on the next transportation ride. At this point, the only thing keeping Zane from living his best life is that he needs to be fully sponsored in order to get out of the shelter. Can you be the one that saves Zane? Please donate to his rescue today!

These precious beagle pups are barely old enough to be away from their mom and have already been dumped at a rural VA shelter. Their owner had 10 other dogs and could not keep up with the care these babies need. At only 9 weeks old, the pups are in serious risk of contracting a transmittable disease in the shelter. Their immune systems are barely ready for the world, let alone an indoor shelter with so many other dogs with questionable health backgrounds. Homeward Trails heard about these sweet littermates and knows that they are their only chance at getting out before it is too late. Can you help save them from a life in a cage? Please help raise enough funds to get them each much needed veterinary care, and a final freedom ride a DC area foster!

These precious 9 week old puppies are pretty depressed. After they were weaned from their mom, they were immediately brought to a rural VA shelter where they now spend their days in metal cages. The seven hound mix pups, Allie, Amy, Andrew, Annie, Alex, Austin and Abby don’t deserve to grow old in a shelter. They are missing critical time in their life where they should be meeting new people, exploring new environments, and also learning to love and trust a new family! Instead, their little immune systems are fighting off potential shelter-wide diseases, all while trying to huddle with each other for some familiarity and warmth. Homeward Trails knows that seven puppies are a big rescue, but couldn’t bear to say no when the shelter asked for help. While HT would love to commit, your donations are what will really be able to make the difference and save these little ones! Please sponsor the “A” team pups so they can grow up to be healthy, happy and well rounded dogs!

Sweet Gia is a young lab mix who has so much love to give. This adorable girl was a stray who had found a house to hang around, knowing that the owners inside were kind enough to feed her. Gia’s life almost came to an end one day when a car on the highway almost hit her! The owner of the home cared for her as long as they could but ended up surrendering her to a rural VA shelter before she was in danger’s way again. Gia is safe from the dangers of life on a street, but her life still is unstable while living in a cold cage, waiting for someone to adopt her. Gia is ready to start a new life, one where she is part of a loving family that will keep her safe! Please sponsor this sweetheart so she can get out of the shelter as soon as possible. Your donations go directly to her veterinary care and freedom ride to the DC area! Her sweet smile with thank you forever.
