Sponsor These Shelter Animals & Bring Them to Safety

The animals featured here are some of the hundreds Homeward Trails is asked to rescue each week. Space and money are the greatest barriers to us saying yes to each request. As a supporter of HT, you can help a great deal by making a donation to offset the costs to rescue one of these animals. On average, it costs approximately $150 to rescue each dog and $100 to rescue each cat. This includes basic vet care provided by the shelters, fuel for transport, staff time, additional vaccines and housing once they arrive at HT.

We are now offering our wonderful family of HT supporters the opportunity to donate to a specific animal and help us bring him/her to safety before time runs out. Every donation will save the life of a specific animal…and any donations over the amount needed will be applied to others in need.

Please, consider a tax-deductible donation today to help these animals. They deserve a 2nd chance at life. And together, we can give them that.

Rolo was found wandering the streets of southern Virginia. It’s dangerous for dogs to live on the streets, dodging predators and trying to survive the cold. Rolo has been safely taken to a shelter, but it’s in an area with a limited pool of potential adopters. This 1-year-old cutie has his whole life ahead of him, and we want to make sure he finds a family soon so he can start enjoying it. We just need to get him here. Can you help us pay to transport him?

Matilda is hoping for a home for the holidays. This sweet little beagle was found as a stray in rural Virginia. As she sat in her kennel, the days came and went and no owners came looking for her. As dog after dog was adopted into warm and loving homes, Matilda has been eagerly waiting for the magical sight of her very own family and we do not want to let her down.

We’re dreaming of getting Matilda out of her rural shelter and into a very special forever home before the New Year but we need your help to do it! Please help us get this beautiful girl on a transport to Homeward Trails TOMORROW so we can get to work on making her dreams come true.

Sweet little Bonbon is desperate to catch a flight! A little over a month ago, Bonbon was found in Puerto Rico with two of his siblings after his mother was poisoned. We’re SO lucky that Bonbon and his siblings were not near their mother at the time and didn’t suffer the same terrible fate!

After being rescued, both of Bonbon’s siblings were able to find their forever homes but Bonbon is still waiting! This tiny boy is only 2 months old and 6 lbs and we cannot fathom why he isn’t wanted. We know that this delightful pup will find a family in VA in no time but we need to get him here! A flight volunteer has offered to carry him off the island NEXT WEEK but we need your help to raise the funds for his flight and vetting.

Please help Bonbon get on a fight and on his way to a new family by the holidays!

Olive can’t believe her eyes – she is homeless in a rural southern VA shelter! This sweet 3-month-old mix was surrendered by her owner for reasons we may never know. What we do know is that a puppy this young needs a life outside of a shelter to grow and thrive. The world is so big and being secluded in a small cage with little socialization can hinder development for a tiny puppy. Homeward Trails is ready to take little Olive in but needs her rescue sponsored before any next steps can be arranged. Your donation can help ensure that Olive doesn’t have to sleep alone one more night. Please help this little one get the love and affection she so desperately desires.

Poor Millie was just getting used to her new owner before being surrendered to a rural VA shelter. This little girl is just 2 months old. She was learning to be a loving family dog and enjoying the comforts of a home. Unfortunately, that was all ripped away from her when her owner decided they didn’t want her anymore. She barely had a chance to bond before being brought to the shelter and put in a cage. Now Millie is confined all day and night with little to no chance to blossom. Adoptions at the rural VA shelter are low and as the shelter fills up, they have to make room for new dogs coming in. This means that Millie may live a very short life at the shelter if a rescue isn’t able to save her. Homeward Trails is ready to take on this little white fluffy snowball, but needs to ensure her rescue is covered. Please donate so this little one can grow up with the TLC she needs!

Smokey is a sweet fox terrier mix found as a stray in West Virginia. It’s getting very cold so Smokey is lucky to be safe and no longer living outdoors. But we don’t feel optimistic he will get adopted at this shelter, which has very few adopters stopping by. We know we can find him a great home if we transport him to Northern Virginia. We just need to cover the costs.

Cold and alone, 18-month-old Mac was found wandering as a stray in rural VA. With night temperatures falling below freezing, we have no idea how long Mac would have survived with no shelter. This poor pup is lucky to be alive! Mac is now warm at a rural VA shelter, but his heart is still chilled from living his days with no family to love. His unique coloring should catch anyone’s eye, but unfortunately no one has come forward to adopt this sweet boy. Mac is the perfect age for so many families, out of the puppy stage but still so many years of love and laughter to give. Without a rescue coming to save him from life behind a cage door, Mac’s future is looking pretty glum. Please help us to ensure this boy has a beautiful life ahead of him! With your donations, Homeward Trails can get him to the DC area to start blossoming the way a happy dog deserves!

Mom Jojo and her two puppies, Apollo and Rocky, ended up in the shelter after their owner decided he could no longer take care of them. These dogs are now stuck in a West Virginia shelter that doesn’t get much foot traffic. Their odds of getting adopted aren’t good. But we know these sweet dogs have a great future ahead if we can get them here and find them loving families. Can you chip in?

Poor Hope is so confused. This sweet 1-year-old was happily living with her family in southern Virginia. But they moved away and couldn’t take Hope with them. She’s scared and sad to be stuck in a shelter and needs to get back into a home with a family. We think we can find her just that, as soon as we get her here. Can you help us raise the money for transport?

Beautiful Athena was found as a stray in rural southern VA. She was savvy enough to keep warm as the temperatures are falling, and was able to find enough food to survive. Athena is a smart 2-year-old lab/herding dog mix and although she was brought to a rural shelter before anything bad happened to her, she doesn’t quite understand why her owners haven’t come to get her from the shelter. Every day she sees shelter staff and visitors walk the halls of the shelter, but no one stops at her cage to adopt her. Poor Athena’s beautiful smile may turn into a sad frown if her luck isn’t turned around. Please help this happy girl get a ride to Homeward Trails, where her whole future can change based on someone sponsoring her freedom ride! This rescue could quite literally be the difference between life and death for Athena. Donate to her rescue today!

Jerrod and Jed are lucky to have each other. These six-month-old brothers were founding wandering the street together in southern Virginia. They beat the odds and are lucky to be alive, as living as a stray often has an unfortunately ending. These two pups aren’t sure how they lost their home, but their bigger concern is that they will become a shelter dog statistic and spend their puppyhood behind bars! The nights are getting so cold and the shelter is at risk of becoming overcrowded and having to make hard decisions on which dogs stay and which unfortunately are euthanized. Homeward Trails can’t bear to leave Jerrod and Jed behind, but without their rescue being funded, taking on these two pups might be a goal that cannot be met. Please don’t let these pleading faces get left behind and sponsor this adorable brother duo today!

These two precious 3-month-old pups, Tolley and Lloyd, were found wandering outside as strays in southern VA. We have no idea how they survived the days and nights with no home, or how they were able to find enough food so they didn’t starve to death. Tolley and Lloyd are lucky pups to have been found and brought into a rural shelter. However, they still aren’t exactly living the life that puppies require to grow up as healthy, well socialized dogs. These babies spend their days in metal cages, just wagging their sweet tails every time someone walks by. They hope and beg for someone to take them with them, but unfortunately the chances of getting adopted there is unlikely. Homeward Trails wants to get the puppies a much needed vet check and a ride to the DC area, but their rescue depends on if we can get them sponsored in time. Please donate to Tolley and Lloyd’s future. They have their whole life ahead of them!

We have to get these nine, 10-week old puppies to a safe situation! These little ones were living in rural Virginia. Their mom is a lab and their dad is a husky who lived nearby. Their owners are kind, but they cannot afford to spay and neuter them and they had no place for them to live except an outdoor chicken pen. Needless to say, it’s getting cold and that’s not a safe place for these little pups to grow up. We need to get them to Northern Virginia, where we can get them into a warm and clean foster home before we find them all forever homes. This is a big undertaking, but we know we can do it — as long as we raise the money! Can you help us?

These tiny pups were dumped outside a home in the dark and cold early hours of the morning. Thankfully. someone found them before they died of exposure. We have no idea where their mother is and our hearts break to think of it. They are only 3 to 4 weeks old, so where is their mom? These pups need urgent care, including formula and vaccines, if we are to give them a shot at survival.

Sweet Phillip was found as a stray in rural VA. This 4 year old corgi mix has no clue how he ended up at a shelter but he has gone from life on the streets to life full of loneliness. Every day Phillip waits at his cage door, just hoping today is that day that someone comes to save him. But the days pass by and he sits and waits. The shelter is a very stressful environment and once they fill up, euthanasia may be an inevitable option for some of the animals. Homeward Trails can’t bear to think that Philip might live out his last days in a cold cement cage. Please sponsor this adorable little guy. His rescue is dependent on sponsors. You really can make a difference in even one dog’s life!
