Sponsor These Shelter Animals & Bring Them to Safety

The animals featured here are some of the hundreds Homeward Trails is asked to rescue each week. Space and money are the greatest barriers to us saying yes to each request. As a supporter of HT, you can help a great deal by making a donation to offset the costs to rescue one of these animals. On average, it costs approximately $150 to rescue each dog and $100 to rescue each cat. This includes basic vet care provided by the shelters, fuel for transport, staff time, additional vaccines and housing once they arrive at HT.

We are now offering our wonderful family of HT supporters the opportunity to donate to a specific animal and help us bring him/her to safety before time runs out. Every donation will save the life of a specific animal…and any donations over the amount needed will be applied to others in need.

Please, consider a tax-deductible donation today to help these animals. They deserve a 2nd chance at life. And together, we can give them that.

Pretty girl Augusta was found wandering as a stray in rural VA. She was hungry, scared and lonely, just desperate for a kind person to take her in. Augusta was taken to a shelter where she has been waiting patiently for someone to adopt her, but sadly she has been overlooked for quite some time. To make matters worse, this sweet girl tested positive for heartworms and needs treatment as soon as possible. The shelter is unable to fund her treatment and as time goes by, her prognosis could get worse without help. Homeward Trails would love to give Augusta her health back, but it is an expensive feat to treat a dog with heartworm. It would be devastating to leave Augusta behind because of financial reasons, which is why her rescue being sponsored in a top priority. Please help this sweetheart get out of the shelter and into a foster home where she can focus on healing. Your sponsorship will give Augusta a brand new lease on life and the gift of health!

Connor is a very sweet but sad 5 year old Beagle. This poor boy was found as a stray in southern VA. We don’t know what his life was like prior to being brought in to a rural shelter, but chances are that Connor hasn’t received much care in the recent past. His mouth is likely in constant pain as he is in desperate need of a dental. Sadly, until a rescue steps forward to help Connor, he lives in discomfort in a shelter cage. The staff do their best to keep him comfortable, but Homeward Trails is Connor’s best chance at much needed veterinary care. Taking on a dog with medical needs can be a lot for any rescue, but HT is confident that with your donations, this beagle will be back in action in no time. Please donate to his transportation to the DC area and to the dental he so desperately needs in order to be a healthy, happy boy!

Autumn is a 2-year-old mostly tan shepherd mix with white paws, a black snout and ears, and white and gray neck and chest markings. This seemingly very sweet girl was unfortunately part of an awful hoarding case in southern Virginia – and we can’t imagine the amount of neglect or improper conditions. Southern Virginia shelters often have low resources, low foot traffic, and higher ethanasia rates, putting dogs like Autumn at higher risk – especially as dogs from hoarding cases often need extra vetting, TLC, and socialization / training due to no fault of their own. Can you help sponsor bringing Autumn to Homeward Trails so that she can receive the care and socialization she needs so that she has her best chance at finding the forever home she deserves?

Clara is a floppy-eared, black, brown, and white beagle / shepherd mix that was found wandering rural Virginia and turned out to be a stray. This small, 2-year-old gal is currently at a rural shelter, which most likely has low foot traffic, low resources, and higher euthanasia rates, putting Clara at a higher risk. Can you help bring Clara to Homeward Trails so she can receive the TLC she deserves and have her best chance at adoption?

Bambi is a 3-month-old tan puppy with a black snout, big eyes, and floppy ears. This cute-as-a-button mixed breed gal was found along with her siblings wandering southern Virginia. It turns out they are all strays. All of the puppies except Bambi have been adopted, leaving unvaccinated Bambi – only 12 weeks – at high risk at a crowded shelter that most likely has low resources, low foot traffic, and higher euthanasia rates. Bambi desperately needs to be brought to a safe place so she can receive any care she needs before finding her forever family. Can you help bring Bambi to safety at Homeward Trails?

Tiny is a pitch black, pointy eared, nubbed mixed breed puppy that was found wandering with her siblings around West Virginia. Unfortunately, this 10-month-old Feist/Chi gal is the only one left of her siblings that hasn’t been adopted. This seemingly sweet gal is currently in a rural shelter that most likely has low resources, low foot traffic, and higher euthanasia rates, putting Tiny at high risk. Can you help bring Tiny to Homeward Trails so she has her best chance at finding her forever home?

Bonnie is a 4.5-year-old, black and brown hound who was part of a horrible, neglectful hoarding case of dogs and cats in rural Virginia. They were found in horrible conditions: barrels for shelter, almost no food or water, confined on short chains to pens full of their own feces, and covered in parasites – Bonnie no exception. For years, rescues and shelters have been trying to get these animals from the property, and until recently, to no avail. The owners finally have signed the animals over, and Bonnie desperately needs our help, as is she is also positive for Lyme and needs dental work. Rural Virginia shelters often have low resources, low foot traffic, and higher euthanasia rates, especially when it comes to dogs like Bonnie. Can you help bring Bonnie to Homeward Trails so she can receive the medical and dental care she desperately needs as well as socialization and love so she can eventually find the loving forever family she deserves?

Jauncho and Pincho are cute-as-a-button, 3.5-month-old, 10-pound black and white pups that were found along with their three siblings by a couple in an abandoned house in Puerto Rico. The couple was feeding the litter, but the area was too dangerous to leave the pups alone in, so they contacted a local foster to ask for help taking them in. The foster was able to find placement in other rescues for 3 of the puppies, but unfortunately, Juancho and Pincho were unable to be placed and desperately need our help. Can you help sponsor flying Jauncho and Pincho to Homeward Trails so they can be safe, cared for, and find their loving forever homes?

Shocko is a 2.5-year-old, 11-pound, scraggly, gray white and tan pup that was found tied up outside in Puerto Rico and completely ignored by his owners. Eventually, fosters down there were able to convince them to surrender Shocko. Although it has taken him time to open up, he is really starting to blossom in foster care. Unfortunately, he has tested heartworm positive and needs treatment. Can you help sponsor bringing Shocko to Homeward Trails and his subsequent medical treatment so that he has his best chance at being healthy and finding the forever home he deserves?

We can’t believe Butterscotch’s sweetness after all he’s been through. Butterscotch, a 2-year-old shepherd mix, was taken from a horrific hoarding case in rural Virginia. Authorities found that many of the dogs were kept in truly awful conditions. You’d think the dogs would be afraid to trust humans, but Butterscotch is a hugger. He’s going to thrive with a forever family. Please help us give this dog the loving and safe home he deserves.

Delilah is a 1-year-old beagle mix who was found as a stray in rural Virginia. Luckily, she was taken to the shelter, where she’s out of the elements and safe from predators. But it’s no place to stay for an extended period, and her odds of getting adopted at this overcrowded shelter are low. We want to get her out and find her a forever family. Can you help us?

Ember, a 2-year-old Shih Tzu mix, was found homeless in southern Virginia. This little one is safer in the shelter as it’s so dangerous for dogs to be living on the streets, but where she’d really thrive is in a home. She needs a place where she can relax and learn to trust again. Can you help us get her here so we can find Ember her family?
