All you need to do is enter and/or vote for your favorite HT adopted pets in the BISSELL Most Valuable Pet (MVP) Contest. Our friends at BISSELL are accepting pet photos from the public through March 25, 2010. In addition to having your pet featured on BISSELL pet product packaging, the lucky winning pet parents will receive a 500 dollar shopping spree AND a 10,000 dollar donation to the pet cause of their choice. Imagine seeing your pet as a star AND helping the homeless animals of HT!!!

Here are HT animals in the contest. Vote for them and help HT win a donation!!!

You have to sign up for an account but it only takes a minute and once you do, you can vote for multiple animals!

(List updated 1/22/10 with new pets in the voting period that closes 1/28)

If you enter your animal in the contest to try to help us win the donation, please share the link to vote for your animal on our Facebook page so that others can vote for him or her. If lots of new people enter their pets and post them on Facebook, we will do another announcement of pets to vote for.

sweetie2Volunteers have been out flyering and searching the area for Sweetie for a couple days now.   She is a shy dog and there are lots of woods to hide in.  Hopefully, she will get hungry and come out soon.  If anyone is interested in helping, we will be meeting at 11am, 32nd & W ST SE on Monday, 1/18/10 to get started.  We will be in the SE area bordering PG county. If you can’t get there at 11 but can come later in the day, please contact Kim at 202-907-1264.

First, a HUGE THANK YOU to all who have donated supplies and funds towards this effort. The outpouring of support has been amazing and we thank you!!!

To date, HT has taken in 4 dogs, 5 puppies and 8 cats – 2 of which are pregnant, from Ritchie County shelter after its fire.

Going forward, Ritchie has asked for monetary donations, which can be made in several ways (details below). Also going forward, HT will need PUPPY FOSTERS in order to take in the pups that are brought into the shelter…where they have no indoor space for them. If you can sponsor a puppy or two, please contact

A HUGE thank you goes out to Dog Paws University and Little Rascals, who have both agreed to take in several dogs and provide boarding for free until they find homes. This is an amazing offer! So please thank them if/when you see them! Additional dogs will be boarded as well, thanks to your kind donations!
