Help Us Give These Very Special Pets a 2nd Chance At Life
The animals featured here are some of the hundreds who have treatable but costly illnesses and injuries that Homeward Trails rescues every year. We have limited resources and must make life and death decisions weekly. Too often, these animals are left behind in shelters simply due to cost. We need extra help to take in animals whose care will cost more and for animals who may be with us longer as they recover.
Your sponsorship of an animal will save a life in real time. Every donation helps save a life.
Please, consider a tax-deductible donation today to help these animals. They deserve a 2nd chance at life. And together, we can give them that.
GIA
She’s been hospitalized with pneumonia!
It started with a little coughing and quickly got worse. Gia stopped eating or drinking, barely getting up from her bed except to ask for pets. The antibiotics weren’t helping and she developed a temperature and was rushed to the emergency vet. They put in an IV and needed to run bloodwork and do x-rays to see what exactly was going on. She has pneumonia and was hospitalized. Please help us provide for Gia so she can hopefully make a quick recovery.
ELMER
He has a large mass in his ear!
Elmer was rescued from a hoarding situation. There were over 60 cats living inside a house when the owner reached out asking for help. She had started taking in cats who had nowhere to go, but because she wasn’t able to get them spayed or neutered, things quickly got out of hand.
All of the cats need our help, but especially Elmer. He has a large mass growing out of his ear canal. We can’t imagine how painful this must be. He will need a biopsy and other diagnostics to tell if it’s cancerous and if it can be safely removed. This is a big undertaking, but Elmer needs us. He has survived so much already, it’s the least we can do for him. Please help!
DUKE
13 year old Beagle is in rough shape
Duke recently arrived from a rural shelter where he spent his whole life living outside. Duke was never neutered, he needs a dental, and he has several masses all over his body. Is if that weren’t enough, Duke also has a heart murmur. Duke needs x-rays, cardiac function test, and blood work to see if his body is strong enough for surgery. His teeth are in terrible and have to be causing him considerable pain so the dental will be extensive. At 13, we want to give Duke the best and most comfortable golden years possible. Please help us get him the care he needs.
NORA
She’s battling diabetes
Nora was diagnosed with diabetes last year and started receiving insulin injections. Her human became ill around the same time and couldn’t give her the care she needed so Nora came back to Homeward Trails. She is due for repeat lab work to make sure her glucose levels are being well controlled with the insulin. Not to mention the insulin itself isn’t cheap. Please help us cover the cost of some of her care so we can get her in the best shape possible and ready for a new home!
6 SHEPHERD PUPPIES
Battling parvo!
They started vomiting and having crippling diarrhea this morning. At only 7 weeks old, they’re so delicate and can crash in a matter of minutes. We got them into the vet and they tested positive for parvovirus. Parvo can be deadly, especially in puppies as young as these are, if not treated quickly and aggressively. They will require IV fluids and antibiotics to help their bodies fight the virus off. This makes it very expensive to treat, especially for a whole litter of puppies. Please help them get the care they need now!
EZRA
Tiny kitten stopped eating!
Ezra and his siblings came to us along with his mom from a hoarding situation. They quickly developed severe respiratory infections. But little Ezra suddenly stopped eating. He was only 9 ounces and wasn’t regulating his temperature – when he arrived at the vet his temperature was dangerously low at 96 degrees. We rushed him to the emergency vet where they put him in an incubator and started syringe feeding him every two hours. He’s not out of the woods, but he’s more stable now. Please help cover his care and make sure he gets everything he needs to grow big and strong.
